How much crop have you got priced already?

The last few years are the exception to the rule, where waiting to price at least some crop proved the better move. On average, incremental sales when the market moves in your favour is a sound grain marketing strategy.

Current grain prices haven’t got many very excited about pulling the trigger and locking in a price, but input prices have come down too, so there can still be profit at lower crop prices. As Brian Voth said, having an emotional attachment to a certain price can be a recipe for disaster if you haven’t worked out the other side of the equation with real numbers of profit potential.
