PRIDE Seeds adds SmartStax Pro rootworm control to 2024 corn hybrid lineup

PRIDE Seeds product development manager Matt Chapple

The next generation of rootworm control is set to hit Ontario fields in 2024. Developed through RNAi technology, PRIDE Seeds SmartStax Pro rootworm control G9 corn hybrids offers a three-pronged attack for control of this yield robber.

Matt Chapple, product development manager with PRIDE Seeds, says this new trait will offer a third mode of action against rootworm, a pest that has developed resistance to existing traits in recent years.

Filmed at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, Chapple explains in this video that under heavy pressure, corn rootworm can cause a direct yield loss of 15 per cent, however combined losses through loss of root integrity can climb as high as 34 per cent in trials.

Chapple says this line of hybrids will be a great fit for those farmers that need feed and grow corn on corn and may have acres already impacted by rootworm populations.
