Kaylie Krys, student of agriculture

This post is part of a series of short introductions of Students of Agriculture. From undergraduates, to PhDs, or those learning out in the world, this series will share snippets of different journeys in agriculture education. Know a student with a neat story? Send Lyndsey a message ([email protected]) to have them recognized as a Student of Agriculture!

Kaylie Krys always knew that agriculture was her path, but she wasn’t sure exactly where she would end up.

Raised on a cattle and grain farm southeast of Vermillion, Alta., Kaylie was an active member of her local beef and sheep 4-H clubs and credits her love of public speaking and presenting to the program.

Kaylie is currently completing a master’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S), after completing her first two years of post-secondary education at Lakeland College. She then moved to the U of S to finish her undergrad.

Shifting gears from environmental science to focusing on  soil science, Kaylie is working with the Agronomic Crop Imaging Lab, using drone imagery and technology to assess field-level challenges.

The intersection of agriculture and ecological systems really interests Kaylie. She’d like to possibly teach one day, but right now here interest is in learning how all systems can work together to feed more people on the same or leass land, noting that it’s not a problem just one person can fix.
