What’s your big, scary dream? The one you really feel you want to achieve? If you’re stuck on how to reach it, former U.S. member of congress Ric Keller says you have to do two things: write it down and then read it day and night.
Keller has written a book on goal setting and achieving big dreams, called Chase the Bears, but while the title may sound markets related, it’s not. It’s really about daring to do what others won’t instead of playing it safe and letting life pass you by.
In this episode of the Mind Your Farm Business podcast, Keller joins host Shaun Haney for a lively discussion on how to set goals, what makes for good goal setting, and then, how self-awareness, focus, and the people around you all can work to help you reach your goals.
Keller explains that a big result is really an aggregate of little, tiny achievements. Breaking a big goal, with a specific deadline, into smaller, more manageable steps is key to getting ahead. Then, he says, you must use your gifts — that thing you do that comes naturally, that you enjoy, but that is difficult for most people.
If you’re using your gift for the greater good, and investing time in good people and good actions, you’re well on your way to making big dreams happen — chasing those bears.
