As we well know, there’s a lot that goes in to growing the “perfect” crop.

SeedMaster Manufacturing has decided to show they are up to the challenge, creating a contest where a canola grower in Western Canada will win everything essential they need to grow a whole quarter section of canola.

Dubbed the “160 Acres of Gold Giveaway,” the contest was launched on RealAg Radio at Agri-Trade in Red Deer, Alta. on Wednesday.

Tim Criddle, global sales director at SeedMaster, says the prize includes enough InVigor hybrid canola seed from BASF, ESN Environmentally Smart Nitrogen fertilizer from Nutrien, crop protection products with custom application, as well as precision agronomic services from Decisive Farming by Telus Agriculture, seasonal use of a Crop Intelligence weather station, seeding using SeedMaster’s Ultra SR drill for the 2023 crop year, and harvesting for a quarter section of land. (RealAgriculture is also the media partner for the contest).

So if you grow canola in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba, you are eligible for the contest.

“We reached out to all of our partners and said here’s an opportunity for us to be really audacious and bold, and take a firm stance in our position in the market in terms of really showcasing how important canola is in particular in Western Canada,” he explains.

“When you think about all of the investment that we’re seeing in canola, and processing in particular, all of the announcements over the past years, and the challenges the industry has to produce about 30 per cent more canola over what we currently produce today over the next five years. We thought wow, that’s a sphere where we’ve got ideal technology, and our partners have ideal technology as well.”

The contest runs November 9 to January 23, 2023, with the winner set to be announced January 25, 2023.

The entry process is pretty simple, says Criddle. You can enter by visiting their website, with no purchase necessary.
