Greeneye spray technology putting down North American roots

Managing costs and minimizing herbicide use meets technology in the Greeneye Precision Spraying System, but when will this pesticide-saver be available in Canada?

That’s the question RealAgriculture field editor Bernard Tobin puts to David Greer, of Greeneye Technology, in the video below filmed at the Farm Progress Show at Boone, Iowa, in August. The Israli-based company definitely has its eye (pun intended) on expanding further in to North American markets.

Greeneye Precision Spraying System can — through sensor and spot-spray technology — cut herbicide use by 87 per cent or more, depending on the application, without sacrificing effectiveness, Greer says.

Available as an aftermarket addition to sprayers, the system is designed to integrate with any brand or size of commercial sprayer.

The incredible costs savings and the environmental impact will have a huge impact on input costs, but the technology is not yet fine-tuned for all crops.

Greer says that corn and soybeans were the first crops the tech was developed for in the U.S., and cotton will be next. After that, the work is ongoing to expand the Greeneye algorithm for small grains, such as wheat.
