4-H Canada has announced the recipients of its Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction (L.E.A.D).

L.E.A.D., which is supported by CN Rail, is 4-H Canada’s most prestigious honour, recognizing outstanding youth members who demonstrate 4-H values in their everyday lives. The awards recognize youth who have become exceptional leaders through their 4-H experience, and who share the best of themselves with their communities.

Each recipient receives a $20,000 scholarship for higher education ($5,000 annually for up to four years), an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the 4-H Leadership Awards, ongoing mentorship from an expert in their field of study, and the opportunity to be a 4-H L.E.A.D. spokesperson.

The 2022 award winners are:

  • Ava Copas of Nova Scotia, Community Engagement & Communications pillar
  • Aidan Reynolds of New Brunswick, Science & Technology pillar
  • Elena Sales of British Columbia, Environment and Healthy Living pillar
  • Kate Axten of Saskatchewan, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security pillar

“The L.E.A.D. scholarships are special in that, above and beyond financial support, they provide unique opportunities for these young leaders to learn from mentors in their chosen field of study,” says Shannon Benner, chief executive officer of 4-H Canada. “This enables them to build skills outside the classroom, grow confidence, and gain real-life experience as they pursue their future careers.”
