Sollio Agriculture closing six locations, winding down Ontario Grain

Sollio Agriculture says it will close the six active locations of Ontario Grain L.P. (Ontario Grain) and exit grain marketing in Ontario.

During the wind down process, Sollio says Ontario Grain will honour all existing contracts and fulfill its obligations to farm customers, employees, and business partners for an orderly transition.

Ontario Grain has six operating elevators at:

  • Shetland (Florence, ON)
  • Staples (Staples, ON)
  • Talbotville (Saint-Thomas, ON)
  • Princeton (Princeton, ON
  • Becher (Wallaceburg, ON)
  • Palmerston (Palmerston, ON)

It plans to continue serving clients during the 2022 harvest season, at a reduced capacity. Ontario Grain will initiate a sale process of its assets with prospective buyers, the company says.

Three non-operational locations at Dresden, Wallaceburg, and Tupperville/Chatham-Kent are also impacted.

Sollio Agriculture (formerly La Coop fédérée) is a majority shareholder in the Ontario Grain partnership. It had acquired the assets in 2018 as part of the organization’s broader national growth strategy. Sollio says it is building on its strengths by focusing on the balance of its core business activity: providing innovative crop and livestock production products and services to farm producers across the country.

The company adds that Ontario Grain operates separately from other Sollio Agriculture business units, such as Agromart and Agrico, and Ontario Grain’s wind down will not in any way affect the quality of products or services from Sollio Agriculture in other areas of business.

Clients with additional questions or who require additional support through the transition are encouraged to contact their Ontario Grain representative.
