Timing soybean fungicide for yield impact

OMAFRA’s soybean specialist Horst Bohner and NK Seeds agronomist Matt Rundle

When looking at maximizing the yield on soybean crops, there are plenty of variables to consider including timing, number of passes and which ones to use exclusively, or combine a couple to elicit the desired outcome.

To gain insight on these variables, we turn to another 2021 Ontario Diagnostic Days video report, where we talk with Horst Bohner with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and Matt Rundle, agronomist with NK Seeds.

In this video, Bohner and Rundle take a look at a soybean crop they are optimistically projecting may yield 100bu/ac and discuss different fungicide protocols to protect the crop in the process, one of which being high moisture content. This of course can bring with it the risk of white mold, and Rundle shares why two passes at specific times, namely late in the R1 stage and also late in the R3 stage, can help mitigate the likelihood of white mold taking ahold of your crop.

Bohner also poses the question of: does a person switch up which fungicide they use, and should you combine them? If so, when and what should you be looking for when doing so?
