SeedMaster’s new air drill is an all-in-one unit

A cereal, oilseed, and even pulse drill, the Ultra SR 60 foot air drill from SeedMaster is an all-in-one complete unit, the company says.

It has a 750-bushel capacity and uses the Ultra-Pro II metering system for both fertilizer and seed says Duane Kent, territory manager at SeedMaster.

“This is kind of a new concept in air drills that we brought out — about three years ago, prototypes hit the market, now we’re in our first full year of production,” says Kent.

“In search of the perfect row,” cites Kent about Norbert Beaujot’s search for consistent seed placement, even in big contouring conditions.

“Our PAMI testing has showed it’s five per cent or better from opener to opener,” says Kent.

Both the capital cost of the unit and horsepower requirement have decreased — Kent says that they’ve had great success running the unit with about 400 horsepower on the front, compared to a typical 60-foot drill that’s pushing 500 horsepower.

As part of new technology on the unit, the new residue management system is a series of spikes that pull residue through openers. The next is terrain following, which is based off of a floating centre axle, keeping seed depth consistent and when extended out to wings, includes mounted castors.

The product is focused on the western Canadian market.
