To plane away nuisance or unwanted stumps, Danuser Machine Company’s new stump auger product might just come in handy.
Kara Oosterhuis caught up with Glenn Danuser about the easy-to-use product at Farm Progress Show back in August.
The new stump auger works on the premise that if you have a hydraulic auger drive, you can use a stump auger to chew through wooden stumps to get them below grade, says Danuser.
The new product comes in 10-inch and 16-inch diameters.
“To operate the 10 inch diameter you need an auger drive with about 1,700 foot-pounds of torque,” says Danuser. “In order to effectively use the 16-inch, you’ll need foot-pounds of 3,000 or greater.”
The large cutting blades are reversible, for more cutting life.
The 10-inch diameter auger weighs 50 pounds, and the 16 inch weighs 70 pounds. “They’re pretty beefy,” says Danuser as the stump augers are made of solid-centre, solid-fixed steel. Once the point is threaded into the stump, Danuser says to let the machine float and let the auger chew through.
Both diameters have two-inch hex collars and Danuser does offer an adapter for round to hex.
