A farmer from the Morden area of southern Manitoba has died after being entrapped in a grain bin on Tuesday.
The Morden and Winkler fire departments were called to the scene near Morden on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 16).
“Unfortunately, it was a recovery instead of a rescue,” Morden fire chief Andy Thiessen tells RealAgriculture.
The STARS emergency helicopter also arrived on the scene, but did not transport any patients.
Both departments spent more than six hours moving grain, working to locate the farmer in the bin.
“The 45,000 bushel corn harvest was being cleaned up by local neighbours and grain handlers yesterday to lessen the burden on the family,” says Thiessen.
