Fully-funded COVID-19 safety training available for farms and ag business

As part of Ontario’s reopening plan, farms and agriculture businesses with one employee or more are required to have COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

Dean Anderson, strategic advisor, agricultural initiatives with Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS), says that many farms, ag businesses, and processors are not aware of the change. But, all it takes is some effort to get companies back on track and regulation compliant, and there’s funding to help, he says.

Workplace Safety and Prevention Services has been working throughout the pandemic to help businesses and organizations create safety plans and processes to meet regulations and keep workers safe. What’s more, the organization has received funding through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and the Canadian Agriculture Partnership (CAP) to deliver these services at no charge to farms and other agriculture businesses.

Anderson says that any agriculture-related company with even one employee is eligible for up to $2,000 in consulting through the program. It’s confidential and can be done remotely, or on-site.

The safety consulting and plan creation must be completed by end of February 2022, so Anderson says WSPS is working to get the word out to as many producers and processors as possible to take advantage of the funding.

There is a dedicated email address for those interested in lining up a consultation at [email protected].
