4WD tractor sales drop, self-propelled combine sales increase in September AEM report

As equipment rolls over the finish line for the 2021 growing season, September sales numbers are in from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

In Canada’s 2WD tractor market, less than 40 HP tractors saw a steady increase of 13.5 per cent year-over-year, rounding out at 1717 sold units. Total 2WD farm tractors saw a 7.7 per cent increase for the same time period.

On the other hand, the 4WD tractor category is down significantly by 24.3 per cent year-over-year.

Self-propelled combines experienced almost the opposite effect — with a 23.5 per cent increase from September 2020, up to 142 units.

In the U.S., it was the 100+ HP tractors that experienced the largest climb in the 2WD tractor category, at 23.0 per cent. Much like the Canadian market, 4WD tractors had a slight drop of 1.3 per cent year-over-year, to 369 units. Self-propelled combines in the U.S. increased the most overall, up 34.6 per cent to 848 units.
