John  Deere’s 400 and 600 series sprayers are the first commercially available sprayers factory-equipped with See and Spray Select technology, as well as other improvements to the cab and boom system.

“Starting front to back, you’ll see the new numbering, which is reflective of the chassis size as well as the tank size,” explains Kaylene Ballesteros of John Deere.

The new cab is more spacious, with a swivelling seat, new steering wheel, foot pegs and more, for ease of comfort and ease of use.

Moving back to the tank and boom, there’s pressure recirculation, keeping chemical in the plumbing as it’s being sprayed, as well as allowing for better clean out at the end of the day.

Product reclaim is also an option, so if there’s unused product in the boom, it can be put back into the tank.

See and Spray Select is used for fallow acres, so green on brown, mostly on the U.S. and Canadian plains or in Australia, says Ballesteros. The processors, or five plates on each side of the boom, and cameras every metre of the 120 foot steel boom make up the hardware of the system.

The cameras can see approximately 2200 square feet, with overlap, at one time, and detect colour differentiation in the field.

“We’ve seen about 77 per cent, on average, chemical savings, with this through our testing that we’ve done the last few years,” says Ballesteros.

See and Spray Select comes installed on the 400 and 600 series sprayers from John Deere and is available to order from local dealerships.
