John Deere is touting improvements in operator comfort, application quality, and machine uptime with the release of its new 400 and 600 Series sprayers.
The 400 Series will include three models: 408R (280 hp), 410R (310 hp) and the 412R (326 hp). The 600 Series will feature two models: 612R (355 hp) and the 616R (375 hp). Tank sizes range from 3028 litres up to 6057 litres depending on the model.
Operators will notice significant changes within the cab of the new sprayers, says Joel Basinger, marketing manager for John Deere. “Each sprayer features a new, larger cab with your choice of three comfort and convenience packages available to fit a variety of needs. The 400 and 600 Series sprayers turn technology into application quality and enhance machine uptime for customers.”
The top level cab package includes a heated, ventilated leather seat that can swivel up to 24 degrees to the left or right, plus the ActiveSeat II suspension for a smooth ride. It also includes a 16.5 cm touchscreen satellite- and smartphone-ready radio, five USB ports, a 12-volt outlet, foot rests, refrigerator, and dual tilt steering column with leather-wrapped steering wheel. The cab’s optional Category IV filtration system flows continuously filtered air into the cab to help keep the operator’s station clean.
Visibility options include electrically adjustable and heated mirrors, additional cameras, and LED lighting packages to provide operators with better visibility where and when needed.
Speed of operations has also been stepped up, notes Basinger. The 400 Series sprayers can reach field speeds of up to 32 km per hour, and up to 48 km per hour during transport, while the 600 Series can reach field speeds of up to 40 km per hour and transport up to 56 km per hour.
Basinger also notes that “John Deere 400 and 600 Series sprayers maintain application quality by delivering more power to the ground when and where it’s needed, such as on hills, while using less fuel and providing a quieter work environment for the operator compared to previous models.”

All 400 and 600 Series sprayers are built with a John Deere PowerTech Engine and the fuel-saving CommandDrive powertrain that transfers power evenly to all four wheels when needed. When spraying over large hills, for example, the powertrain automatically increases engine RPM when more power is required to maintain a consistent speed and spray pattern. On flat terrain, auto mode maintains the selected ground speed and application rate at lower RPM.
When it’s time to spray, Deere’s AutoTrac, RowSense, and AutoTrac Vision keep the sprayer in the row for precise product placement, allowing for increased spraying speed and reduced operator fatigue, notes Basinger. Deere’s ExactApply technology allows operators to control droplet size, spray pressure and individual nozzles. The optional BoomTrac Pro 2 enhances spraying accuracy by maintaining the boom’s position, even when the boom is at increased heights.
Each 400 and 600 Series sprayer comes with a JDLink connection, plus an integrated StarFire 6000 GPS receiver, Generation 4 CommandCenter display and AutoTrac guidance. Basinger adds that Deere will be taking orders for the new sprayers beginning in June with the first deliveries in August.
