Fertilizer, grain drying, and a countdown clock on the AgriStability proposal: an interview with Minister Bibeau

(supplied)

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Marie-Claude Bibeau is still waiting to hear back from western provinces on her proposal to adapt the AgriStability program for 2020.

Given that the calendar is set to flip to 2021 soon, the clock is winding down on the likelihood of changes being in place for 2020, she says.

In the discussion below, RealAgriculture’s Lyndsey Smith asks Bibeau about the status of the business risk management proposal, plus, how farmers feeling ignored by new environmental policy may access some support, and how “insignificant” the carbon tax on grain drying may be at $170 per tonne.

Bibeau also shares her thoughts on the recent U.S. filing against Canada regarding the USMCA implementation on dairy inputs, and the move to a more “predictable” relationship with our American neighbours.
