Lactanet Canada kicks off national DairyTrace program

RealAgriculture, 2019

Lactanet Canada has launched DairyTrace, the new national dairy cattle traceability program for dairy farmers in Canada.

Lactanet Canada was recognized in June by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) as the nationally responsible administrator for traceability of dairy bovine animals.

Under federal regulations and/or proAction requirements, everyone who owns or has the possession, care or control of dairy cattle must record and report animal identity, movement, location, and custodianship information.

The new platform includes both a mobile app and online database portal to record and report dairy animal identification and movement. It also includes a national website, that hosts information for dairy producers, other custodians of dairy cattle, and consumers. Instructional materials will be available in print, online, and via video.

DairyTrace will have staff located at Guelph, Ont., and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que., for customer service support. Tags will now be ordered through Lactanet.

Non-producers outside of Québec, such as abattoirs, assembly yards, and auction facilities, will be able to submit to the DairyTrace database directly or through the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency’s Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS).
