Massey 8700S tractors fit across a range of farming operations

When Massey Ferguson rolled out its 8700S Series tractors in 2019, AGCO had hoped the 270 to 400 Hp tractors would find a fit across a range of farming operations.

One year later, the tractors have proven a versatile and productive fit for everything from pulling planters and grain carts to powering manure applicators to hay balers, says AGCO marketing product specialist Zach Cagle. In its first performance report card, Cagle notes 8700S Series customers have given top marks to the tractor’s new Datatronic 5 touch screen terminal, which provides a more intuitive precision farming experience.

The 5″x 9″ touch screen gives the operator the ability to optimize transmission, engine and hydraulics as well as guidance and tractor functions, allowing for effective control of the tractor and implements, notes Cagle. The Datatronic 5’s video mode displays pictures from an on-board camera via the console screen, allowing operators to monitor implements and also makes reversing the tractor and implement safer and easier.

With the addition of ISOBUS, Datatronic 5 also allows an implement manufacturer’s control system to be displayed on the terminal screen, saving time and money, with no need to install additional monitors in the cab.

In this interview from the National Farm Machinery Show (NFMS), Cagle also discusses how the addition of the Dyna-VT transmission helps the 8700S Series deliver exact speed requirements for planters and balers.

Modifications to the hydraulic system have also caught the attention of operators. Cagle adds that a new oil cooler at the front of the tractor better equips the 8700S Series to more efficiently cool oil as bigger implements demand greater flow.
