Government announces major pandemic support measures, including “boost” to FCC

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Bill Morneau have rolled out a series of economic measures to assist Canadian workers and business owners in dealing with the realities of COVID-19. Agriculture was mentioned as the Prime Minister said, “for farmers and our primary food producers we will boost Farm Credit Canada.”

There was not clear indication what this boost actually means, even to people close to the matter at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Farm Credit Canada.

On RealAg Radio on Wednesday (March 18, 2020) Mary Robinson, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, fresh off the government’s AAFC COVID-19 Monitoring call, stated that she asked about the what the PM meant by “boost” but no clear answers were provided by Minister Bibeau.
