CLAAS launches new AXION 800 and 900 Series tractors

CLAAS has announced the full commercial launch of the AXION 900-800 series at Farm Progress Show at Decatur, Illinois.

RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin had a chance to catch up with Drew Fletcher, product manager with CLAAS of America, to talk about the 200 to 440 horsepower tractors’ release into American and Canadian markets.

Fletcher says the 800 series is available with two different types of transmissions — a HEXASHIFT or CMATIC (CVT) transmission, and the 900 series is available exclusively with the CMATIC transmission.

“We’ve got the HEXASHIFT, which is a six-speed power shift, backed up by a four-range robotized shift change. So 24 forward speeds and 24 reverse — so a very efficient, simple transmission. But then we also have the CVT — or what we refer to as the CMATIC — and that is a full CVT hydromechanical,” he explains. “It’s four modes, compared to some others out there that’s only one mode or two modes, and that gives you even more efficiency. We’re never more than 40 per cent hydraulic drive and never less than 60 per cent mechanical power.”

The AXION 800 series also features a 6.7L Tier 4F engine with deep torque reserves, with a horsepower range of 200-280. The AXION 900 features an 8.7L Tier 4F engine with horsepower ratings of 320 to 440, depending on the model.

Fletcher describes the new series as “simply efficient, simply productive, and simply comfortable.”
