Upgrading planters with customizable row units from Precision Planting

Illinois-based Precision Planting has a different model than most equipment manufacturers. It aims to improve farmers’ planting, liquid application, and harvest operations by focusing on upgrading, rather than replacing, equipment.

Northwest region manager Matt Grove was in Saskatchewan for Ag in Motion, where the company showcased a few of their products in the Ready Row Unit.

“Our company started in the early ’90s with metering technology and the Keeton Seed Firmer,” says Grove, in this interview with RealAgriculture’s Kara Oosterhuis. “We’ve expanded from that, as you can see, through different metering with our vSet 2 meters, adding vDrive with electric motors.”

Ready Row Units are cast iron, with 14-inch parallel arms, 16-inch disc openers, and gauge wheel options at 3 or 4.5 inches. The units feature customizable gauge wheels, closing systems, row cleaners, and Precision Planting technology.

“Our goal isn’t necessarily to sell you every product, it is to identify the issues you have agronomically, and then address those for each individual user.”

Grove adds a few of the company’s staples include the DeltaForce, CleanSweep, and the Gen 3 20|20 display.

The U.S. company currently has dealers in Manitoba, and is looking at expanding into Saskatchewan.
