Dot rolls out G5 New Leader fertilizer spreader

Ag in Motion attendees had a chance to see Dot — the autonomous robotic power platform — operate at Langham, Sask., this week.

Dot has made appearances across different tradeshows since its original debut and launch in 2017, but this time, it brought a fertilizer spreader along – the latest of its attachments.

Rob Saik, chief executive officer of DOT, says that the latest DOT-ready implement is an NL5000 G5 precision applicator fertilizer spreader.

“It’s been six months since we’ve moved from discussion to prototype, so we are really excited that we were able to take a discussion with New Leader, and now convert that into a live product that will be selling into next year,” he explains. “New Leader is a leader in fertilizer spreading technology. This fertilizer spreader is capable of doing 16 sections of variable rate technology. It can do sideways spread, it can do headland spread, so it opens up more opportunity for farmers.

The innovation gives producers an option in an industry that is struggling to keep up due to a lack of farm labour help.

“So what a farmer could do is load up with urea, put the path plan in place for Dot, and basically go away, and that fertilizer would be spread over the field as he is doing something else. It’s an amazing invention.”

Saik even hinted at another implement release coming out in the near future.

“I think it suffices to say that we are going to have a major surprise at the Canadian Outdoor Farm Show for row crop farmers. We are going to have a signal to them that’s going to be really exciting.”

Currently, producers can buy Dot itself, the Seedmaster, as well as the Pattison connect sprayer and colter systems.

“What you are seeing is the evolution of Dot-ready implements. One Dot machine, capable of clipping to several implements,” he emphasizes.
