Agronomy Geeks, Ep 7: Deb Campbell

How do you know when it’s time to set up shop on your own? And in this day and age of rapidly evolving precision agriculture and technology, how does a boots-on-the-ground agronomist carve her niche?

Deb Campbell has addressed both those tough topics — the first, in 2012, after a few almosts and could-have-beens, and the second daily in her work as founder and leader of  Agronomy Advantage, based at Dundalk, Ont.

In this edition of Agronomy Geeks, host Lyndsey Smith asks Campbell about making the move to an independent agronomist role and setting up shop, including how you know when it’s time to do so. Because precision agriculture is such a huge part of technology in farming, Campbell also shares how she sees the agronomist acting as the go-between expert with farmers and precision platform providers. It’s a thoughtful discussion on filtering the noise when it comes to mapping and prescriptions and maintaining continuity for farmers on advising.

From there, the pair also discuss the future of crop advisors in farming, and how her recent step up to leading the Certified Crop Advisors-Ontario board fits into that future.
