BioAdvantage Trial results in Eastern Canada

Eastern Canada has a lot to look forward to with the 2018 Acceleron BioAg™ BioAdvantage Trial results, including results from a new corn product.

Now in its fourth year, the Acceleron BioAg™ BioAdvantage Trial (BAT) program tests and measures the benefits of Acceleron BioAg inoculants on Canadian crops across diverse regions and soil types. In 2018, farmers from Alberta to Nova Scotia participated in the trials, testing 6 different products on 13 crop types to observe how vigour, plant health and yield were impacted by the different technologies.

The BAT results from the past couple of years have been positive. Soybean crops treated with QuickRoots® inoculant, which increases uptake of phosphate, potassium and nitrogen, performed with a win-rate of 79% over untreated crops. JumpStart® inoculant, which helps to release bound phosphate in the soil, had a 80% win-rate on soybean crops versus untreated crops. Trials will continue within the BAT program on soybean crops with these products and others in 2019.

This year a new product, Acceleron® B-300 SAT + Acceleron® B-360 ST, was tested in the BAT program. This combination of products is available pre-treated on corn seed through the Acceleron® Seed Applied Solutions portfolio. Acceleron® Seed Applied Solutions for corn deliver protection against pests, fungus and nematodes in addition to their own proprietary benefits.  The bio-enhancers component, B-300 SAT, uses the soil fungus Penicillium bilaiae (the same active in JumpStart® inoculant), which grows along plant roots, increasing availability of soil-bound phosphate. B360-ST, on the other hand, contains LCO technology. This technology increases mycorrhizal colonization, leading to improved nutrient and water update through an enhanced relationship with soil mycorrhizae.

The 2018 trials also marked another year of testing the combination of JumpStart® + QuickRoots®. Stacking biologicals within the cropping system enables the different active organisms in Acceleron BioAg™ products to have complementary effects. These multiple modes of action allow for greater benefits when combined.

Growers have a lot to look forward to with these new products and product combinations, and the trial results demonstrate why. All 2018 trial results will be published soon on the Acceleron BioAg™ website, Growers are invited to keep an eye on the interactive plot map and look for the 2018 results in their area.

Acceleron BioAg™ is looking forward to continuing with their success of the BioAdvantage Trials program and to learn more about the benefits of nature’s technology.

Performance may vary from location to location and from year to year, as local growing, soil and weather conditions may vary. Growers should evaluate data from multiple locations and years whenever possible and should consider the impacts of these conditions on the grower’s fields.
