Wheat School: Which is the best streamer nozzle?

What’s the best choice of streamer nozzle? It’s a question RealAgriculture agronomist Peter Johnson is asked countless times every year.

Well, here’s the answer. In this episode of the RealAgriculture Wheat School, WheatPete puts on his suit and gloves and heads to the field to show us how three-stream, five-stream and seven-stream nozzles compare. He also takes a close look at Chafer bars, also referred to as Needham bars.

There are pros and cons to every streamer nozzle, and each will do a good job if growers can keep the boom at 20 inches, says Johnson. “But most farmers – once they have the Chafer bars – never go back,” he adds while noting that “folding, breaking, and cost can be issues, but there’s very little burn.”

In the end, Johnson’s message is real simple: “Figure out what works best for you and grow great wheat.”
