G3 makes CEO change

G3 Canada has a new CEO.

Karl Gerrand left the company on Tuesday, after leading the G3 through its transition from the former Canadian Wheat Board to a grain company with bricks-and-mortar grain handling and export infrastructure.

“Karl and the board decided a change in leadership is appropriate at this time, as G3 continues to evolve in its growth from concept to fully operational,” says a statement forwarded by a G3 spokesperson on Wednesday.

G3’s board of directors has appointed Don Chapman as the new chief executive officer, effective immediately. Chapman has worked in the grain industry for more than 20 years, for Vitol Group, Viterra, Toepfer International, and most recently as vice president of the Lansing Trade Group.

G3 was established in 2015, when Bunge and SALIC Canada formed a joint venture to acquire the privatized Canadian Wheat Board. At the time, Gerrand resigned as the head of Bunge’s Canadian operations to become the CEO of G3.

While leading G3, Gerrand oversaw the start of construction on a new export terminal in North Vancouver and investment in new grain terminals across the Prairies.

Prior to working for Bunge, Gerrand was the chief operating officer for processing with Viterra, and president of Can-Oat Milling, Inc.
