Montreal-based dairy company Saputo has announced another international acquisition — the largest goat cheese manufacturer in the U.S.

Saputo says it has entered an agreement to acquire Betin, Inc., which operates mainly under the Montchevre brand, and employs 319 people at its manufacturing facility in Belmont, Wisconsin.

Montchevre generated C$150 million in revenues in the fiscal year ending June 30th, says Saputo.

“The transaction will enable the Cheese Division (USA) of Saputo to broaden its presence in specialty cheese in the United States,” the company says.

Montchevre was founded in 1989 and supports a network of more than 360 farms, according to its website.

The deal comes less than a week after Saputo announced a deal to acquire Murray Goulburn Co-operative — Australia’s largest milk processor — in a transaction worth $1.3 billion, including the Australian company’s debt.
