Several activist organizations have set their sights on Agriculture in the Classroom-Canada and the organization’s programming for Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month.
The Canadian Biotechnology Action Network, Rachel Parent’s Kids Right to Know, the Council of Canadians, and Earth Action PEI have written a letter to education ministers across the country asking them to remove Ag in the Classroom’s content — specifically a webinar planned for March 7th called “Trashing Food Waste with Technology” — from classrooms. The webinar will be hosted by Jessica Brady of Okanagan Specialty Fruits, the company that developed the genetically engineered non-browning Arctic Apple (above right).

Referring to the Ag Literacy Month content as “propaganda” and “a corporate intrusion into our schools,” the activist groups also suggest Ag in the Classroom’s programming is biased since it lists Syngenta, Dow, DuPont, and Bayer as some of its sponsors.
Farmers and people employed in Canadian agriculture will be visiting more than 800 classrooms and 30,000 students across the country during March as part of Canadian Ag Literacy Month.
