De Rocquigny Hired as Joint GM for Manitoba Corn and Wheat & Barley Growers

The Manitoba Corn Growers Association and Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association have announced they’re hiring a shared general manager.

After 16 years with Manitoba Agriculture, cereal crop specialist Pam de Rocquigny is moving on from her government extension role.

She will replace Theresa Bergsma in the MCGA office, and take over the MWBGA responsibilities from Brent VanKoughnet, who was contracted to help get the organization running after its formation in 2013.

“Manitoba Wheat and Barley have intentionally operated with contract leadership up to now in order to be able to seize an opportunity like this. We are very pleased to hire Pam and to break some new ground in collaboration among grower organizations,” said MWBGA chair Fred Greig in a statement on Tuesday.

There have been discussions recently among some Manitoba farm groups about working more collaboratively, with de Rocquigny’s hiring signalling a step in that direction for the corn and cereal crop organizations.

“Pam has a great understanding of the important grower organization issues for each of our crops and we are looking forward to working with her and MWBGA to uncover new opportunities and efficiencies with this new arrangement,” noted MCGA chair Myron Krahn.

De Rocquigny also farms with her husband Norbert and two boys near Haywood.

“I have always had a belief that grower organizations play a very important role in supporting and sustaining profitability for producers. I am excited to be a part of building on that and to be working within this new and dynamic collaborative arrangement,” she said.

She will begin her new role on February 13th — the week of Crop Connect in Winnipeg, where both MCGA and MWBGA will hold their annual general meetings.
