Singapore-based pulse and grain trading company Agrocorp has announced it’s moving its Canadian headquarters from Vancouver to Moose Jaw in early 2017.

The company opened a $20 million pulse handling facility in Moose Jaw in 2013 — one of four plants Agrocorp operates in Canada.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall was in town to make the announcement on Monday.

After joking about it being the best acquisition from BC to Saskatchewan since Geroy Simon (future hall of fame CFL receiver), Wall spoke about creating a climate in Saskatchewan that attracts business.

“Attracting head offices of companies to our province has been a priority of our government,” he noted. “I first met Agrocorp Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Iyengar during an Asian trade mission and certainly encouraged Agrocorp to invest in Saskatchewan. So I welcome this decision and thank Agrocorp for creating new jobs and investment in Saskatchewan.”

Agrocorp currently has around 50 employees across Canada, and expects to add another 20 jobs as it expands over the next three years in Moose Jaw.

In addition to the Moose Jaw facility, Agrocorp acquired Veikle Grain near Cut Knife, Saskatchewan in May. The subsidiary of Agrocorp International has also purchased the former Peace Country Oat Facility at Falher, Alberta and the former Central Alberta Transloading Terminal at Innisfail.
