The Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame (OAHF) has a new home at the Ontario AgriCentre in Guelph.
Hall of Fame members and ag industry representatives gathered on Friday to officially open the new gallery, which features a unique combination of history and technology to accommodate OAHF’s 210 inductees.
For the past 36 years, the Hall of Fame has been located at the Country Heritage Park in Milton. OAHF president Barry Fraser says its board of directors is very appreciative of the commitment it received from Country Heritage Park, but the opportunity to move to Guelph is exciting.
“Our move brings us to a centre of excellence in Ontario for the agricultural, food industry and rural sectors,” says Fraser. “The gallery will have increased visibility, easy access and be aided by our new electronic kiosk, which will allow us to better profile and honour past, current and future inductees.”
Located on the second floor of the AgriCentre, the gallery will feature portraits and biographies for the current year’s inductees and 20 previous inductees. All other artwork and citations will be preserved in the University of Guelph archives, but can be viewed through the kiosk that features an easy-to-use touch screen.
OAHF will induct five new members on June 12, including: William Campbell, Bruce Christie, Graeme Hedley, Tom Sawyer and Deborah Whale.
