The incumbent Saskatchewan Party cruised to its third consecutive victory in the provincial election on Monday, receiving 63 percent of the popular vote and winning 51 out of 61 ridings.

SaskParty leader and Premier Brad Wall was re-elected in Swift Current, receiving over 80 percent of the votes cast in his constituency.

“We will not take a day for granted. We will work every day to earn that support,” said Wall in his victory speech at the Palliser Pavilion in Swift Current.

“You can expect a government that is proud of oil and gas in this province. You can expect one that’s proud of mining, proud of modern agriculture, proud of crop science — the likes of which are growing amazing canola crops across this province and feeding the world,” he said.

The NDP won 10 seats, but leader Cam Broten’s riding was not one of them, as he lost Saskatoon Westview to the Saskatchewan Party’s David Buckingham by 232 votes.

Lyle Stewart, who has served as the province’s agriculture minister since 2012, handily won the redrawn riding of Lumsden-Morse with 6,111 votes — almost 4,500 more than his nearest challenger.

NDP agriculture critic Cathy Sproule also retained her riding of Saskatoon Nutana.
