It seems Fendt’s VarioGrip system, though impressive, left room for improvement. The system, which allowed operators to adjust front and rear tire pressures from the comfort of the cab, took about seven minutes to increase tire pressure by one bar. A little too long for some farmers.
But instead of moping about it, Fendt employees headed back to the drawing board to figure out how to make the transition even faster.
Enter VarioGrip Pro, the “tire-in-tire” solution, as Stephan Bea, head of sales engineering for Fendt, described it.

The system now includes an inner tire integrated into the outer tire of the wheel, acting as a high-pressure reservoir.
Now, the system can shift from field mode (0.8 bar) to transport mode (1.8 bar) in just thirty seconds.
VarioGrip Pro was first shown to the public at Agritechnica, where it didn’t suffer from lack of recognition. Fendt took home an Agritechnica gold for its innovation.
It will be available as an option for some Fendt 900 Vario series tractors at the end of 2016.
