The line between what’s a traditional clunky tractor monitor and a user-friendly household tablet is disappearing, as evidenced by Trimble’s latest version of its TMX-2050 display.
On the market for two years, Trimble introduced several upgrades to the Android-based 12-inch touch screen unit earlier this year, explains TJ Schulte in the video below, filmed at Agritechnica ’15 in Hanover, Germany.
“We’ve opened it up to really feel like the real Android platform,” he explains, noting operators can add and customize apps through the App Central marketplace. “We have customers from all across the world, all different locations and different practices. This allows our resellers to customize the system to exactly what they need.”
While the menus, settings and apps are the same as on any Android-based device, Schulte notes the ability to steer a tractor, control rates, and control equipment is still unique versus a household tablet.
“We’re meshing together the traditional display in the tractor that’s just used for guidance and steering or application control with all the uses of a tablet,” he explains.

Beyond this convergence, what’s next for in-cab displays?
