RearSteer Windrower Built for Western Canada

The WR9800 RearSteer windrower is also available in a Canadian flag wrap.

When AGCO set out to build a rear steer option for the Hesston WR9800 windrower, it had western Canadian farmers in mind.

At the recent Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, AGCO Hay and Forage Marketing Manager Kyle Kitt told Real Agriculture that its RearSteer design option was really driven by canola growers and grain swathing markets.

‘There’s a need to be able to tow a draper header behind the windrower and a need for faster speed to transport from one field to the next,” says Kitt. The steering component was built on a traditional rear axle. “It’s not a steering assist, it does not just keep the rear axle stabilized, it is truly doing the rear steering,” he explains.

The front-end then acts more as a power drive unit, giving farmers transport speeds of up to 40 km/h. Attachments allow farmers to tow draper headers at 32 km/h.

When farmers are finished one field, they can quickly move on, notes Kitt. “Simply select the RearSteer speed range and you’re ready to take off. Hook on to your draper head and just go.”
