The Saskatchewan Wheat Commission has launched an online, map-based tool designed to help farmers anticipate fusarium risk on their farms.
The tool, available on the Sask Wheat website, is a series of fusarium risk assessment maps that will be updated daily using data collected from approximately 421 weather stations across Saskatchewan. The maps are generated and developed by Weather Innovations Consulting (WIN).
Map users will be prompted to search maps by their estimated wheat flowering dates in order to get the most accurate risk information, says Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture’s provincial disease Specialist Faye Dokken-Bouchard.
In the video below, filmed at Canada’s Farm Progress Show, Dokken-Bouchard shows us how to use the web tool, and also explains how it works into a larger plan of other fusarium management best practices, and why you can’t just use one tool.
