The Seduction of Organic Production & the Mystery of Science: A CropSphere Preview

Have you met someone with a degree from the University of Google? Perhaps you’ve even boasted those credentials when arguing your case over a contentious issue about food or agriculture. But if you’re frustrated that everyone is suddenly an expert on science without actually understanding it, this isn’t a new phenomenon.

Dr. Joe Schwarcz, director of McGill University’s Office for Science and Society, has been hosting a radio show about understanding science and chemistry for 30 years. The mystery surrounding science isn’t s new bump in the road to understanding, says Schwarcz, but the advent of the Internet and social media combined with “seduction” of organic production has left conventional agriculture in the lurch.

Demystifying chemicals and how science and research happens and works is what Dr. Schwarcz will talk about on day one of CropSphere at Saskatoon, Sask., held January 13 and 14, 2015. Hear a preview of his talk below!
