Is This the Year for IP Soybeans?

The number of acres committed to identity-preserved (IP) soybean production in Ontario has dwindled in recent years, but 2014 will likely reverse that trend, as lower commodity prices make the IP premium more attractive.

But where will IP soybean acres end up? How big of a jump could Ontario see? What’s seed supply and contract availability like this late in the game?

Those are great questions (she types to herself), and each one is answered in this interview between RealAgriculture’s Ontario field editor Bernard Tobin and Martin Harry, with Secan. Filmed at the London Farm Show earlier this month, Tobin and Harry go over where the IP market is at, a few things farmers need to remember when committing to IP contracts and what the prospects are like for 2014.
