Western Winter Wheat Initiative Officially Launched

western winter wheat logoBayer CropScience, Ducks Unlimited Canada and Richardson International Limited announced the launch of the Western Winter Wheat Initiative during Western Canadian Crop Production Show in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Monday.

The Western Winter Wheat Initiative launch unveiled a brand sweet in its simplicity, coupled with a user-friendly site and a few changes to their still very interactive twitter handle.

“We have been an advocate for the crop for many years,” said Paul Thoroughgood, regional agrologist for Ducks Unlimited Canada, in a news release. “Winter wheat is a great fit in cropping rotations and with the new varieties that are available, along with improved agronomic practices, it is one of the highest performing and highest returning crops on the Prairies right now.”

The initiative, aimed to support and encourage farmers to grow winter wheat, will also provide a space for financial collaboration on research projects.

For more information, check out the following video, where Thoroughgood explains the initiative, what it means for producers and why winter wheat is a good addition to a crop rotation in western Canada.
