Under the Microscope: The Future of Seed Testing

Seed labs, the services they offer and the role they play in crop production is changing. Within the year, changes to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will shift certain roles and responsibilities to the private sector. Crop inspection services and some analytical services will move outside of the CFIA and seed testing labs are a natural fit for taking on some of these tasks.

That’s not the only change coming down the pipeline, as the crop type in Western Canada moves towards more high value crops, new technology speeds turnaround times and adds new testing procedures to the seed lab’s offerings. In this episode of Under the Microscope, Holly Gelech, business development manager of Biovision Seed Labs, forecasts some of the exciting and interesting ways seed labs are evolving to meet the needs of the agriculture industry.
