Canada Hosts the First-Ever Ag Youth Summit at Calgary

What’s sure to be a career-shaping week for nearly 120 youth from across the world kicked off in Calgary yesterday, as the first-ever Youth Ag Summit got rolling in the city.

Hosted by 4-H Canada and Bayer CropScience, the week-long event’s theme is “Feeding a Hungry Planet,” and each day delegates from 20 countries will focus on a different aspect of big-picture food production thinking. The big buzz-words like sustainability and food self sufficiency won’t just be discussed, they’ll be picked apart and presented through the lens of very different perspectives with a goal of equipping each attendee with the motivation to apply these ideas back in their home countries.

RealAgriculture.com’s very own field editor, Debra Murphy, was selected as one of the delegates to attend the summit. She was also asked, alongside Jacob Onyschuk, to participate in the Calgary’s Breakfast Television. (To view the Breakfast Television interview, click here.) In the interview, Murphy describes how each day of the summit will have a different theme, building off not just sustainability discussions but also to leadership and mentorship. This is also a once in a lifetime opportunity to network with peers from across the globe whom all share a passion for the agriculture industry, Murphy says.

Watch this site for more coverage of the summit, as Murphy eventually finds time to blog about it, but given that each day’s events go well into the evening, we’re thinking it will be next week before we get to see much.
