In the a story that seems to be getting stranger and more unpredictable with every passing day, XL Foods has decided to bring back 800 of the 2,000 laid-off workers. If you are saying to yourself, “huh?” Don’t feel bad, I think everyone is. XL foods released the 2,000 workers just yesterday.
In a report by CBC, XL Foods needs to begin processing again to allow CFIA to complete its assessment. Without processing more cattle, XL Foods will not get any closer to re-establishing its license. If there is is no re-issue of the license the packing plant will never re-open.
It would appear to becoming very clear that CFIA and XL Foods are not communicating whatsoever. This whirlwind of rash decisions seems to be providing a dark light on the inability of either side to make clear decisions in a situation that has both sides reeling.
