Wheat School: New Study Looks to Expand & Improve Winter Wheat Production

Studies are underway to help winter wheat producers to improve production in a number of areas and to help expand the amount of acres being grown by farmers across the west. The two year study by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Alberta Winter Wheat Producers Commission will look at a number of factors that affect crop stand establishment. Some of the areas being looked at are the areas of seed treatments including fungicides and insecticides and their effects and crop sequencing and its effects on stand establishment.

Brian Beres is a part of that ongoing study. Brian is a Cereal Agronomist with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada based out of Lethbridge, Alberta. I spoke with him about the study and what they’ve seen so far.
