Will Durum Explode to the Upside – Bruce Burnett – CWB

Durum may be working its way toward being one of the higher returning crops for farmers this year. Prices are on the rise as supplies tighten and production woes continue in some areas of the west. Weather was one of the factors in play as key durum producing areas in the U.S. and the Canadian prairies battled to get what they could in. On top of that, quality of durum was affected as well, creating demand in that area. This year may end up adding to that tightness of supply as well as planting was late in many of the durum producing areas.

Bruce Burnett is a market analyst with the CWB. I caught up with him at the Western Farm Progress Show in Regina, Saskatchewan where I talked to him about what’s in store for durum in the coming months.
