Ag-Media RoundTable – A Challenging Spring Across Canada

In case missed it….the 2011 spring is providing to be a real challenge across the country. It is wet everywhere except for Northern Alberta. Areas like Southern Alberta are over 75% seeded while parts of Ontario have only 40% of the corn planted and 5% soybeans.  Eastern Saskatchewan and Manitoba have major issues while Peace River is dry.  Last year there was perfect growing conditions in Ontario while this is year two of these conditions in the west.  Depending on where you are in the country there are pockets where farmers are happy and in position to benefit from moisture.

In this episode of the Ag-Media Roundtable we are joined by Lyndsey Smith, Editor of Grainews and Claire Cowan, Editor of The Ontario Grain Farmer. Shaun Haney, Founder of RealAgriculture.com and the guests discuss how seeding is progressing across the country and how farmers might be shifting strategies and plans to cope with some of the mother nature curve balls.  If weather doesn’t convince you to change plans does the projected crumble of the CWB change anything for your 2011 planting intentions?  If you are in Ontario do you plan to start growing more soybeans and trade out of corn seed or just lower your heat units?
